A line – basically something quite plain and simple, something elementary. If however, you look just a bit closer, this reduced piece of form can become unexpectedly exciting. A line can be a path, boundary, sign of prohibition, structure, symbol and much more indeed – not just the apparently simple distance from A to B.
Where several lines meet, something new evolves, something more complex. Shifting them results in new dimensions, even in seemingly optical delusions and new interpretations. The interaction between different colours in close neighbourhood is fascinating. Particulary if these different effects become visible in just one line.
Form and colour enter a very close relationship here, captivating the viewer. This esthetic experience, the mesmerizing contemplation of coloured lines and shapes dissolves seeming structures and can even trigger psychic effects.
The distance between individual lines can be interpreted as a time line or a permanently repeated process. Hidden in the individual line there can therefore be rigid or flexible spaces of time, filled with stories, with expectations, events.
In some of the paintings of the lines series ”windows” are integrated, focussing on or even limiting new spaces of time, they offer new outlooks, demonstrate hope, stress a point or bundle energy and strength.
For the artist the "Millennium" of course had a special allure and was inspiration for a new"”Millennium Lines Series". Each painting presents exactly 2000 vertical lines.
